Travel: A Trip to Dublin Part 1

There was a time a couple of months ago where we were all feeling a bit down with all the work we had to do so we booked a holiday to Dublin for mid-February - forgetting that not only was this Valentine's Day (that's fine, we're all single) but also the Rugby Union. Cue, a very busy Dublin with couples and the French!
This aside, it was a really lovely trip and a welcome relief after all our exams and other goings-on.

After arriving very late on Thursday, we went straight to bed to wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed for a day of sightseeing. We stayed at Generator Hostel, a chain I've previously stayed at in Berlin and Hamburg. It was situated near the Jameson Distillery and although not right in the centre it was easy to walk everywhere and meant we were closer to the Guinness Brewery and the Zoo but I'll get to that in the next post!

We began with museums, although admittedly we spent all of 10 minutes in the National Museum before heading to The Little Museum of Dublin, 15 St Stephens Green. This was one of my favourite parts of the trip, filled with donated memorabilia about Dublin's past and the guided tour is definitely a necessity as you get a real insight into all the objects on display.

After we went downstairs to the cafe underneath, Hatch & Sons, another highlight of the trip. The girls went for Chicken & Tomato Blaas (rolls which originate from Waterford) whilst I had the Soup of the Day - Courgette which was served with Irish Soda Bread, my absolute favourite. I just wish we could have stayed for cake as that looked so good!

Following this we mooched around the shops, found out they were more expensive and went in search of cake.

Unfortunately I can't remember where we ended up but here's a picture of my cake anyway - Cheesecake Brownie and a pot of Peppermint tea.

We went for a further wander around the city centre and St Stephen's Green itself, purchasing our breakfast for the morning, as nice as the hostel was, the breakfast wasn't worth the money.

We ended our evening with dinner at a lovely Italian called Pacino's. I had Mushroom Tortellini followed by Tiramisu. All delicious and accompanied with a large glass of white wine.
