As promised here is what we got up to on the rest of our trip in Dublin. Even though we all hate beer, we thought we couldn't go to Dublin without trying Ireland's black liquid gold and where better than
Guinness Storehouse. We practically followed a lorry transporting the good stuff all the way to the factory.
I've previously been on a brewery tour, Carlsberg in Copenhagen and this was extremely similar. Although here there was the adding addition of the tasting experience where you were told exactly how to drink Guinness.
To claim your free pint that comes with entry you can either pour your own or head to the 360 degree rooftop bar to get someone else to do it for you, we chose the latter.
It was extremely busy as it was the day of the Ireland vs France rugby match so we weren't able to stay up there long but you get a really good view of the city from there.
I'm afraid the tour didn't change my mind on beer (still hate it!) but it was fun nonetheless.
After some lunch at a pub nearby, we went to Dublin Zoo. I'm not a huge fan of Zoos and alas didn't take many pictures, although there were some very cute baby elephants!
We wandered back to the hostel to get ready for our dinner reservation at
37 Dawson Street. I decided it was best to book somewhere given it was Valentine's Day and we wanted to be guaranteed food! I did get a call from one of the staff after booking it making sure I wanted the table for 3 not 2, ha.
The evening menu was designed for sharing and I wanted everything. Our waiter recommended we order around 2 dishes each which turned out to be the right amount of food. Sorry for the poor pictures here, I think it was mood lighting! Definitely get the sweet potato fries as those were some of the best I've ever had.
But it doesn't stop there, the desserts, oh the desserts. These change daily apparently so the waiter reeled off today's specials.
Red velvet cake and Mango and Lime Cheesecake, there were others but this is what we went for.
This was the best value of the money, look at the size of the portions!
I would love to be able to go back to
37 Dawson Street, if only I lived closer to Dublin!
After a few more drinks, we headed to bed to prepare ourselves for our final morning in Dublin. *sad face*
We had planned to go to
Kilmainham Goal the day before but having got there we found it was extremely popular so decided to go on our final morning. It was well worth a visit and meant we could find even more out about Ireland's history, unfortunately some of the prison was closed due to roof repairs but we still got a good insight and the tour guide was very informative.
That ends our trip in Dublin, it's been nice to relive it on the blog as we're now in the midst of lectures and dissertation planning. I'll be back one day!
